Wightman House Vineyard is located close to Anderson Creek, where cool coastal breezes are drawn in a daily dance that allows fruit to pause and gain complexity before greeting the warm Sun. The Martini clone produces distinctive fruit with earthy, herbal notes described sometimes as robust and just as often as a favorite example of Anderson Valley.
Jim Pratt began developing this vineyard in the late 1990s, on a site south of Graton and West of Sebastopol on the far western portions of the Sonoma Coast in an area known as Laguna Hills and more recently, the Sebastopol Hills. The slightly sloping hillside receives the classic morning fog and warm afternoons common to the coastal region, producing fruit with great acidity.
The Mardikian Estate Vineyard is quite literally a dream come true. If you posed the question, “where is the ideal Pinot Noir vineyard?” you’d find that the answer is atop a rolling hillside, sloping gently to the southwest, with the Pacific Ocean moments away in the far reaches of the West Sonoma Coast, in the Sebastopol Hills. In other words, the Mardikian Estate.
The first 15 acres of the Toulouse Vineyard were planted by Vern and Maxine Boltz in 1998, and another 6 followed, along with 1 acre of Riesling. Vern was an Oakland Fire Captain and Maxine traveled the world for United Airlines before retirement. It sits in the cool Anderson Valley just 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean, in what’s known as the Deep End.
Plush in texture with heady aromas of blackberries, black cherries and notes of freshly ground coffee. We integrate a touch of Malbec to develop a softness in the tannins, making this a wonderfully smooth and seamless wine. These mouthwatering tannins surround the palate, framing layered elements of bright blueberry, subtle smoke and deliciously rich mocha.
Hess is largest grower of Malbec in Napa, and this Mount Veeder-grown Malbec is one of our most sought after Small Block Series wines. This wine is round and complex, with a structure and flavors that set it apart. On the nose, aromas of black licorice and boysenberry are accented by hints of smoke and cedar spice. Supple and inviting on the palate, flavors of black plum and dusted cocoa build to bold meaty notes that are complemented by plush, chewy tannins.
Our Small Block Series Merlot is a beautiful expression of what this varietal has to offer. Inviting aromas of red currant, black cherry and cocoa lead to a supple wine on the palate. This Merlot is driven by black plum and cassis, which marry with touches of cinnamon spice and toasted oak. Well-managed, mouth-filling tannins appear in such a way that does not overpower the wine as it lingers on a long, pleasant finish.
Beautiful aromas of orange blossoms are accented by notes of kaffir lime and ginger. On the palate, rich and unctuous flavors of ripe apricot and mandarin orange are accompanied by delicious notes of honey with a hint of spice. We choose to stop primary fermentation at 2% residual sugar without malolactic fermentation in order to emphasize the bright, clean finish of the wine.
From vineyard to your glass, this fruit gets special attention, and is offered in a pure, Chablis like style. On the nose, beautiful and delicate floral aromas of jasmine marry with sweeter notes of honeysuckle and candied ginger. Layers of stone fruit and tangerine citrus offer a wonderful acidity that delights the palate, while a very subtle hint of vanilla creme and toffee from the oak aging emerge on the lingering finish.
Deeply colored, presenting aromas of boysenberry, blackberry and inviting elements of nutmeg and vanilla from oak aging. Supple with a rounded mouthfeel, this wine is driven by red fruit flavors, most notably red plum, that provide a wonderful lift on the palate and a seamless supporting acidity. Well-managed, mouth-filling tannins appear in such a way that does not overpower the wine as it lingers on a long, pleasant finish.
